ABOUT US
We are a nonprofit, volunteer, foster home and donation based rescue located in Jasper, AL. Though we focus a majority of our efforts on dogs in Walker County, we are committed to helping any animal in need. After all, they are unaware of their zip code. All of our partner rescues accept animals outside of their home states so this is our way of paying it forward. In addition, while our hearts lie with the stray living with mange by the roadside, we also regularly commit to puppies and adults found “Free to a Good Home” on Facebook, Craigslist, and community yard sale sites. They are at risk for being irresponsibly discarded when not re homed, used for disingenuous purposes or left to languish while tethered to a tree in the backyard.
Our mission is that no animal ever experience one of those fates.
What is the process?
We rescue, foster, and aid in adoptions....The purpose of a foster is for them to acclimate to living with other animals, children, teach manners, and get a jump start on potty or crate training (which makes for a higher rate of adoptions). The average time in a foster home before transport is 2-4 weeks.
We are often asked why we transport animals out of state. Simply, the laws are not on our side in Alabama. There are more stringent laws that support animal welfare in our partner states.
We partner with out of state rescues that are also foster based where each animal is spayed/neutered and up to date on shots before being adopted to families that submit an application and have a home visit. We have worked with groups in FL, MN, MA, PA, WI and Ontario, Canada. We utilize a program called Pilots N Paws which involves pilots whom volunteer their time and planes to fly animals all over the US.
We do place some of our adult dogs with local furever families on a case by case basis.
A few partners... We thank you!

Who is Sasha?
Sasha lived at a 4 way stop in Parrish, AL for at least 6 years from local accounts. One of her pups is now an adult and living there in addition to 2 males. Sasha had one of the worst cases of mange that I have seen in 10+ years of volunteering in rescue. She and her two 6 week old pups had sarcoptic and demodex mange, secondary bacterial infections, malnutrition and dehydration. February 13, 2014 our co founder, Angie James, took the pups in to foster and nursed them back to health. They went to A New Beginning Rescue in Orlando, FL. They have both been adopted into furever homes! February 28, 2014 we constructed a 10x10 kennel in Parrish, tied a rope to the door, baited it and waited. We finally had her! Sasha was also fostered by Angie while continuing to heal and gain strength. She lives with me now and is continuing to gain confidence and adjusting to having a family. She has advanced congestive heart failure due to untreated heart worms. So, we will make her comfortable until it is time for her to cross The Rainbow Bridge.
